FAQs

Got questions? If so, we've got the answers. Let's take a look at just some of your most-asked questions…

Is leather bad for the environment?

Leather is a by-product of the food industry and, as such, takes a material that would otherwise end up in landfill and turns it into something beautiful: something that lasts and then biodegrades. This means that leather is, in fact, of benefit to the climate.

We strongly believe in all things local too. It’s friendlier for our planet if we endeavour to source all our materials as ‘locally’ as possible. Our specialist leathers are produced by Italian tanneries with each having a proven track records for its care to the environment, including the welfare of the stock animals used for the supply of rawhides.

Are there any particular characteristics of leather I should be aware of?

Leather is a natural product, so it’s important to bear this in mind when working with it. Leather wears in, rather than wearing out; this is what gives leather its beauty and unique character, thereby distinguishing it from synthetic alternatives, including vegan leather.

These variations can be classed as the hallmarks of fine leather. Leather may fade over time, (degree dependant on leather range/type) and it will age too. If you are at all unsure of your chosen products’ suitability, please get in touch with our sales team or read more about the natural characteristics of leather.

Why is real leather is better than synthetic or faux leather?

Real leather is a natural by product. Meanwhile, synthetic leather is made from climate-harming raw materials.

How should I clean and care for my leather?

You can easily maintain your leather, simply by referring to individual range care guides for the care information you’re looking for. If you’re in any doubt, we are happy to answer your questions about the range you’ve selected.

Are cows bred for leather?

No, leather is a by-product of meat production and is, in effect, a natural way of recycling a product which would otherwise go to landfill.
