There’s something beautifully timeless about wingback chairs – no more so when they’re upholstered in leather.
Alison Holman of Essex-based interiors boutique, Bowerbirds knew a traditional chair (featuring sustainable leather, no less) would be just the thing to encourage even more people off the Chelmsford high street and into her shop.
She was right.
After placing an order with Nene Valley Leather, she promptly had a wingback chair made and upholstered in leather in a warm, neutral colour and with a soft finish.
Alison’s mission was simple: add the wingback chair to her showroom and wait for people to head inside to get a closer look.
She wanted something that ‘looked inviting and was not cold to the touch’, she told the team here at our Nene Valley leather wholesalers.
Thankfully, Alison didn’t experience any challenges when it came to sourcing the leather and eventually ensuring it was transformed into a piece to be proud of.

Isn’t she stunning? Plush and comfy with beautiful curves and standing proud on its equally stunning wooden feet, this is a masterclass in design.
As you can see, the finished result was indeed nothing short of breathtaking – a real classic for true chesterfield chair fans.
What was the verdict from customers? Alison says they ‘were surprised at the softness of the hide and really liked the shade’.
“There were no problems at all [with the service]” she reiterates, adding: “The finished piece looked classic, comfortable and attractive.”
The wingback chair – which she originally positioned in her showroom as a sample piece – has been selling so well that she’s since ordered more hides of leather from our team.
Sitting pretty amongst a gorgeous collection of traditional furniture, the wingback chair has elicited a great many ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from shop visitors. After all, chesterfield chairs are highly sought after, as are neutral colours like the one Alison so carefully selected.
